Get Off Your Butt

This past weekend was one of those great ones that included some serious down time. Having down time is such a rare occurrence for me that when I get it, I try to savor it. While I had down time for much of Saturday, I started something new on Sunday … running. Yes, go ahead and think of Forrest Gump because that’s all I can think of “I was running!”

This past year was all about figuring things out and surviving, but this year is all about “doing the damn thing” as my dear friend, Virginia, would say. I’m all about challenging myself in ways that I haven’t before. My hope is that this year is the year I find out the most about myself and what I’m really made of, if you will. That’s where running comes in to all of this.

I’ve always joked that I won’t run unless I’m being chased by zombies.  Although the undead have not taken over the world, I still wanted a challenge. A BOOM moment – something that is all mine and that is an attainable goal.

The goal is to train for an upcoming 5K (in the Fall) and to run the entire thing without walking. I’m going to be honest and say that I can barely run a mile now without stopping. It’s going to be a test, but I’m ready for it.

So here I go on my next challenge. And, hey, if the zombie apocalypse ever happens, I’ll be ready for it.

Yay!! Good for you. I have a love/hate relationship with running. I love the goals I set (and usually achieve). I love having some alone time, or if there’s no alone time, I can do it with the kiddos in the stroller. I love the feeling *after* running. I love to drink a cold beer after a sweaty run. I actually hate the running part, though. 😉 Good luck! Keep us posted on your progress!
